Want to know a little more about me eh?  Well I’m flattered!  Flattered but also a little lost as to what I should say.  Lets try the usual autobiographical stuff first.  I’m thirty-seven years old.  I’m the mother of two children.  When I tell people how old said children are, their first response is usually “you’re too young”. They’re right, I am.  However, I’ve packed a lot of life into these too few years. I’ve had a number of jobs, secretary, teacher, tutor, academic, writer.  I’ve settled on ‘writer’ for the moment.

I’ve also lived in a number of places (all over Australia and in Turkey) and have visited even more (pick one and I’ll tell you if I haven’t been there).  I’ve recently downsized my life by moving from a great big house in the suburbs into a compact little apartment on the Gold Coast.  I figure having less stuff and fewer commitments will mean I can move around more readily.  I’ll let you know how that goes…

My favourite pastime is storytelling whether I do this verbally or in written form doesn’t fuss me.  My second favourite pastime is listening to stories…and that’s why I started a blog.  I reckon this way I’ll get to tell you some stories and you can tell some in return.  Perfect really, I couldn’t have planned it better myself…oh wait…

  1. Bec, you’re getting lazy sweetie. I’ve logged on looking for my next smirk and you haven’t had the decency to update your blog. Very, very bad. You will not get an elephant stamp from me.

    Lift your game princess

    Very disappointed

  2. Ah Copper, of course it would be you who got on my case! Truth be told, I’ve been bogged down in the finishing touches of a paper on the parallel stories of feminism and journalism (thrilling stuff). And of course the first reviewer felt the need to demand I explicate exactly which type of feminism I supported. Hehehe…fortunately I stumbled upon the most wonderful paper about how feminism should be that which holds us together, rather than a source of parochial narrow mindedness. Also recently read a great book about feminist research undertakings which stated that any research which placed women and womens issues (different and differing as they may be) in the spotlight…is feminist research. So I fed that back to my little reviewer with just a touch of ‘nah nah ne nah nah’.

NOW I need to get my head out of my arse and get on with the job of actually thinking for a bit!

Good of you to keep me on my toes Copper.
    Ta!

  3. Well that’s much better. I’m feeling rather self satisfied now. I do expect a blog at least once per week, I don’t think that this is too much to ask. Now that I have clarified these expectations, please ensure that you maintain this regularity and to the required standards! Diwali was a reasonable effort, I felt momentarily charitable.

Are you writing your paper in relation to your PHD?? If so, that’s great! If not, then what are you doing it for?

The boy is back at work, he’s very proud that he’s bringing in an income. Bugger that! I miss my house husband and those lovely home cooking smells when you walk in the front door after a hard day. The blokes had it right all along!

Hope you’re going well Bec, don’t stew over stupid comments, I do, but you shouldn’t.

    Talk soon Bec

    Take care

  4. Ha! I do love a little double standard in the evening! I will do my best to live up to your expectations. In fact once a week was my initial goal…so much for that whole completer-finisher thing huh?

The paper is just a side project. It began as an offhand comment and somehow became a whole freakin’ paper. That’s two peer moderated papers for a woman employed to do other stuff.

Glad the man is enjoying work. You’re absolutely right on the whole house hubby thing though, it’s fabulous isn’t it? (I say that while nursing two fingers I burned while cooking dinner tonight).

Also happy Diwali post made you feel all mushy for a moment. The food was good too!

    ‘night Copper
